Dover Hall Wedding Celebration | Amanda & Ben
Dover Hall wedding venue, just outside of Richmond, Virginia was the perfect setting for Amanda & Ben’s intimate wedding celebration!
Amanda and Ben had their first date at Fitler Dining Room in Philadelphia, and he proposed in New York City where the couple live, at the Bow Bridge in Central Park. (How romantic does that sound?)
The groom and his family are from Richmond, so to celebrate with their Virginia family and friends, they hosted a wedding celebration dinner at Dover Hall!
I’ve shot several weddings at Dover Hall, and always jump at the chance to shoot here. I find new locations on the property or new ways of seeing things every time I come here!
So I was very excited to document Amanda & Ben’s wedding dinner party for them. I captured lots of portraits with family and friends, lots of candids of their guests mingling and enjoying themselves and stayed through toasts and cake-cutting.
And of couse, the couple wanted a photo session with them around the venue, too! It was rainy when we first arrived, but Amanda and Ben were great about heading out into the mist to capture a few photos outdoors.
And I actually really love couple portraits with an umbrella! I think they’re so romantic. I had brought a clear umbrella with me for them to use, and I love how these photos turned out.
Afterward, we headed inside. And we just grabbed a few photos in two locations the couple wanted, but seriously, you could take all your photos inside if it was a really rainy day, and you wouldn’t be mad about it.
After dinner, the sun was out, so we took more family photos outside, and grabbed another quick session with the couple in the back portion of the venue. None of the little mini-sessions with the couple took very long at all so they could spend the bulk of their time with their guests!
We shot the first set in the rain and indoors before guests arrived, and the second set was right after dinner.
Give me 5-10 minutes, and I can grab portraits you’ll have for the rest of your life! (A good thing to remember especially on your wedding day!)
I loved getting to know Amanda and Ben and their family and friends. Since this was the dinner party after their wedding, we weren’t as pressed for time and it was so relaxed and lovely to get to spend time at this beautiful property at a slower pace.

Some great advice when chosing a wedding venue is to love your rain plan, and Dover Hall has one of the prettiest out there. There are so many beautiful rooms in Dover Hall for interior wedding portraits!
