As a DC Engagement Photographer, you know you have to get up early if you want your couples to have great photos at the monuments without the crowds. When I arrived for Shannon and Evan’s DC engagement photo session at Lincoln Memorial, I got a little worried. I got there shortly before sunrise when it was still fairly dark out, and I was surrounded by what appeared to be an Army bootcamp group in training and another large athletic training group—all running the stairs and doing burpees by the reflecting pool.

Fortunately, 20 minutes later when my couple arrived, there was just a handful of tourists enjoying an early morning stroll. Whew!

The Lincoln Memorial was the perfect location for their session because Shannon and Evan actually had their second date there.

The couple met in Washington DC when they were both working as summer legal interns. They joke that they had no business meeting because if it was not for a random Saturday brunch, their paths truly never would have crossed.

Within a week the two were spending every day together and knew they had found something special. When the summer ended, they committed to long distance while Evan finished law school at Wake Forest and Shannon finished law school at William & Mary.

They did not know their post graduate plans but had faith it would work out how it was supposed to. They ended up applying for the same job, where you list a handful of cities you would be willing to relocate to for two years. They half-expected that Evan would be in NY and Shannon would be in California, but surprisingly both got placed in Atlanta and not only moved to the same city, but became coworkers!
