Virginia Wedding in The Plains | Brooke & Jacob

Brooke & Jacob’s private estate wedding in The Plains proves that even pouring rain can’t diminish the beauty of an outdoor ceremony in Virginia Horse Country. (And that wedding rainbows often follow the storm!)

Brooke and Jacob met when Jacob's sister-in-law was Brooke's kickball team captain for a recreational league in Arlington, VA. But it would be a global pandemic that would give the couple the opportunity to grow close when the two couples entered the pandemic in a sort of “pod."

They went on their first date in June of 2020, and the rest is history.

Foiled by some unfortunate weather, Jacob popped the question by candlelight in Brooke's living room while they were home for the holidays! Then their closest friends and family then met them for a surprise celebration at a local winery. Rain or shine, it was perfect!

DC wedding planners Marriage and Mimosas created an elevated garden party atmosphere held outdoors in the Virginia countryside, leaning into the landscape and lots of spring florals and colors to dictate the aesthetic.

The design included lots of sage green, light blues, and pops of color with spring florals.

The couple got ready at a nearby estate in Middleburg, which had a beautiful stone home, rolling hills lined with peonies, and stately horses in the pasture, which came to greet the horse-loving bride for bridal portraits.

Then they traveled to the ceremony venue, the home of a family friend in The Plains, where they shared an emotional first look in the tree-lined drive.

Fortunately, couple portraits, wedding party portraits, and family formals were all captured before the ceremony. Because the gorgeous sunny day we’d enjoyed all day quickly took a turn right before the ceremony began.

The couple made the call to hold the ceremony outdoors despite the rain, and the planning team handed out 100 umbrellas to guests as they arrived. The drizzle grew steadier, and the maid of honor and best man held umbrellas over Brooke & Jacob to keep them dry and their hands-free to hold vow books and exchange rings.

The rainy ceremony in front of the estate’s greenhouse truly couldn’t have been more beautiful. It is one of the most memorable ceremonies that I have seen because of it.

There were other sentimental details throughout the day. Jacob’s wedding band was his late grandfather’s. The bride wore an Anne Barge Dress from White on Daniel Island bridal salon in South Carolina. "Joy of my Life" by Chris Stapleton was the couple’s song for their first dance, and guests all danced the Hora before kicking of party dancing with the band, Kristen and The Noise.

Brooke and Jacob, I loved the opportunity to document your wedding day and this chapter of your love story. Despite a spot of bad weather, your joy never faltered, and it was so contagious!
