Salamander Resort Wedding in Middleburg

Sona & Allan’s Salamander Resort Wedding in Middleburg was colorful, vibrant, and featured the perfect blend of the couple’s South Asian traditions.

The couple met in Manhattan and still live in New York, but Sona knew she wanted a wedding venue where she could bring her beloved horse, Governor, with her. And where else is better for a destination wedding for an equestrian than Salamander Resort, a 5-star luxury resort nestled in Virginia’s horse country!

The bride’s family is from India, and the groom’s is from Vietnam, and elements from both of their heritage were woven throughout the day. I especially loved the Hoi-An Vietnam-inspired design of the cocktail space. With blue toile, colorful florals, and floating lanterns, it was absolutely magical.

Guests had a blast participating in a Baraat, the Indian celebratory entrance of the groom. They danced along as a mobile DJ led the parade with drummers, and Allan followed in a red convertible from the resort's entrance to the ceremony site.

Sona was stunning as she rode her horse from the equestrian center to the ceremony tent. She was greeted by her brother who helped her off the horse and escorted her to her waiting parents.

Planner Lauren at Swoon Soiree and florist Sophie Felts did a great job transforming the ceremony tent. Guests entered the space through a beautiful floral arch and were made comfortable for the ceremony in gold and blue velvet chairs. (I think they came from Charleston, SC, and were probably my favorite chairs at a wedding! Here’s your cue to go for the unique rentals!)

During cocktail hour, musicians played through the hidden garden space, keeping the guests entertained and engaged as the sun set.

A violinist also accompanied the couple as they shared their first dance. Sona & Allan shared a choreographed dance amid theatrical smoke that started and ended very traditionally and elegantly but segued into hip hop with the wedding party joining in the fun during the middle.

Sona & Allan, your entire weekend was absolutely incredible! I loved meeting all your friends and family—including your sweet pup and beautiful horse. You two are just the best! Thanks so much for trusting me to capture your celebrations. I loved every minute of it! (And I promise, I had a shot in your honor when I was off the clock!)
